Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and classically trained pianist Christiane Cargill's music is passionate and multi-dimensional. Far from being pressured into studying music, RTS' front woman and composer, Christiane Cargill, insisted on piano lessons at the age of 3, while her legs were still too short to reach the pedals. She studied classical works with great enthusiasm, but found herself increasingly drawn to improvisation and songwriting. She wrote her first song at age 8, and had several albums worth of material written by the time she graduated high school.
While studying classical piano performance at the University of California in Irvine, Cargill teamed up with poet and lyricist Joy de Guzman, forming the group ELYN. The duo recorded their first full-length album, "The Fallen Ones," in 1998. The album explores pop, folk, classical, rock, and world beat stylings, featuring the dynamic percussion of Christopher Pellani, chosen as one of 10 outstanding drummers for BAM Magazine's November 1994 article on "Unsung Drumming Heroes of LA." Several tracks from the album have been utilized in major film soundtracks, including the independent feature film "Accidents Don't Happen" (starring Corbin Bernson and Debra Wilson of MadTV), and the Internet soundtrack for "Blair Witch II: Book of Shadows."
Adding new members Burgundy Morgan (bass) and Jake Jacobs (drums) to the group in 2002, ELYN formed the band RIDDLE THE SPHINX, immediately receiving glowing reviews from the press, and a dedicated fan-base through the Los Angeles area and beyond. RTS is active in community and charity work, most recently helping raise money to provide drum circle programs to at-risk children at Orangewood Children's Home. The band enjoys frequent live performances, and expects to release their new album, "Vagabond," in late 2004.
